The Security Feature Counterfeiters Never See

What is SNOWLEOPARD®

A Disruptive Covert Authentication Technology

SNOWLEOPARD® embeds invisible submicron security features directly into products and packaging — they cannot be removed, transferred, or replicated without damaging the substrate.

Built on advanced materials science, surface engineering, and precision manufacturing.

Unlike labels, inks, holograms, or QR codes, it becomes an integral part of the product surface — permanent and tamper-resistant.

Product Geometry
Compatible with flat, curved, cylindrical, and 3D products

The Magic: See It, Then Watch It Vanish

SNOWLEOPARD® is a proprietary non-contact process creating permanent submicron microstructures in the product surface. Warm breath instantly reveals the hidden feature — which vanishes as moisture evaporates, returning to covert.

This simple yet intricate phenomenon guarantees genuine products.

The Physics of Protection

Embedded Physics: Why Surface Features Fail

CONVENTIONAL METHODS

✗  VULNERABLE

QR codes, Noise Print®, holograms, and security inks are applied or printed onto the surface — and can be easily copied, removed, transferred, or digitally reproduced.

Criminal organizations employ the same physical and digital manufacturing methods as the original producer to outsmart consumers and brand owners.

SNOWLEOPARD®✓  SUPERIOR

Engineered physical microstructures embedded directly into the substrate, rather than a surface applied feature, create a durable covert layer that is exceptionally difficult to replicate — while preserving the product's appearance and function.

Because the feature is the substrate itself, it cannot be removed, transferred, or reproduced.

The SNOWLEOPARD® Advantage

SUBMICRON MICROSTRUCTURES
OPTICALLY INVISIBLE
IMPOSSIBLE TO COPY
REVEALED BY WARM VAPOR

Traditional Vulnerabilities vs. SNOWLEOPARD® Advantages

Surface-applied features vs. Embedded Covert Physics

Surface-AppliedPrinted, attached, or applied to the surface; susceptible to removal or transfer.
Substrate-EmbeddedMicrostructures become an integral part of the product or packaging substrate.
Overt & ExposedVisible features can be directly examined, copied, or reverse engineered.
Covert & InvisibleThe feature remains optically invisible under normal viewing conditions.
Copy VulnerabilityCodes, labels, holograms, and inks may be copied or digitally reproduced.
Copy ResistanceEngineered submicron structures are exceptionally difficult to replicate.
Device DependenceVerification may require cameras, readers, apps, databases, or specialized tools.
Equipment-FreeWarm breath or vapor mist reveals the feature without a camera or reader.
Connected WorkflowSome methods depend on internet, cloud services, or image-analysis systems.
Offline VerificationNo app, database, cloud service, or internet connection is required.
Recurring ConsumablesLabels, inks, holograms, and printed features create recurring material needs.
Zero ConsumablesNo inks, chemicals, labels, or recurring authentication consumables.
BOTTOM LINE: Embedded covert security eliminates exposed surface features, verification equipment, connectivity, and consumables.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is SNOWLEOPARD?

SNOWLEOPARD is a proprietary Level 2 covert optical security anti-counterfeiting and product authentication technology. Invisible microstructure security codes -- fixed or variable text, images and logos -- are permanently etched submicron into plastics, thin films, glass, metals and other substrates, either directly on the product or on tamper-evident labels as part of a layered defense. It is available exclusively from The Sabreen Group and has been deployed worldwide since 2005.

Who verifies a SNOWLEOPARD code, and how?

Anyone, in seconds, with no instruments, tools, lights or smartphone app. The code is invisible until water vapor is applied -- an exhaled breath, a mist or a small steam humidifier -- when it appears briefly and then disappears again as the moisture evaporates. That makes it practical for consumers, retail staff, distributors and customs officers alike, and the fleeting appearance is itself a deterrent to replication.

Does adding SNOWLEOPARD require retooling or consumables?

No consumables at all: the process uses no additives, chemicals, solvents, inks, labels, lasers or printers. It is a non-contact process that imparts the codes in seconds, on desktop-size systems that run inline or off-line, or on customizable high-speed web-film transport systems, and the industrial equipment runs 24/7 on electricity alone (120/240 V). Whether a specific part or substrate suits it is what the feasibility stage establishes.

Which products is it suited to?

Any product where counterfeiting or tampering is a concern, on transparent, translucent or opaque substrates of any color: polymer banknotes, passports and government photo ID, ophthalmic lenses and frames, medical packaging and instruments, pharmaceuticals and personal care, glass and plastic bottles, electronics and circuit boards, labels and tags, crystalware, watches and jewelry, apparel and footwear, and automotive, aerospace and military components. The industries section of the site sets out the categories in more detail.
