Dene H. Taylor, PhD

Inkjet Chemistry Printing Scientist Engineer

Dr. Taylor has more than 30 years of experience with technical and business leadership and development in the paper, film, coating, printing, indicator, and packaging industries. He has worked with many different coating, extruding, packaging, and printing processes for applications ranging from traditional and digital printing, surfacing, insulating, and barrier films, beverage packaging, construction materials, and decorative panels.

Dene has been retained for technical management, new product design, development commercialization and distribution, new process design, problem resolution, business and technical strategy analysis and development, major manufacturing trouble-shooting, and intellectual property analysis and protection. He has been retained by major beverage companies for product development, novel design, product and process troubleshooting, expert witness, and patent analysis. Trio Industries, a start-up venture pursuing large-volume powder coating of MDF, retained him as acting Chief Scientist for two years. In that role, he determined the preferred technologies, materials, and substrates, which were then integrated into the facilities plan.

In 2001, Dr. Taylor established and ran Decorative Surface Technologies, Inc., a manufacturer of decorative panels for the architectural, signage, and advertising markets. The company was one of the pioneers of large-format dye sublimation printing on rigid materials. The image quality achieved is recognized as comparable to the finest of digital printing. In 2005 he sold DECSTEC to a New York investor and was retained through 2006 as Chief Technical Officer and New Jersey Manufacturing Manager.

His prior industrial employers include Union Camp (now a part of International Paper), Mead Paper, James River Corp., Rexam, and Dunmore. His responsibilities grew from scientist through Technical Manager to Vice President, R&D. He holds patents in paper products, digital printing, protective coatings, and chemical temperature indicators, many assigned to SPF-Inc’s clients.
